I flicked through the little local magazine that arrives in our letterbox every month. It’s got the usual combination of quaint, local, village news (“Have you seen missing Robin?”, “Parish clerk to step down after 15 years” and “Trio jailed for orchestrating multi-million pound scam”) and interesting adverts “Is your pet in need of a pamper?”, and this:
The reason I found this one interesting, as a part-time atheist and part-time agnostic, is because Phil could save himself a bit of work.
Here’s what I would suggest to you if you’re thinking of taking out a full-page ad in a local mag to give away free copies of your book:
- Set up a website
- Use an email marketing provider (I use Aweber which costs a little bit but Mailchimp is free for up to 2,000 subscribers) so you can collect email addresses
- Offer the free book in exchange for email address
- Send the book out automatically to people who sign up (either as an attachment or via a download link)
Instead, Phil will have to send an email out manually every time someone asks for a copy of his book.
