“Phone & have a chat,” I’d written in my notebook after not having a laugh with my mate Dunco for more than a year. “That’s where it’s at, never mind InstaGoogleFacebookSnap.”*

Whatever else the internet gives us, you can’t beat actually talking to someone face to face.

And then there’s pubs. Magical places:

The music, the humour, the pub salad (dry roasted nuts + salt & vinegar crisps – no bowl or dressing required).

The opportunity for great copywriting at the door, behind the bar, outside the toilet.

They’re relaxing, creative places and tend to move with the times. They’re where life and work merge. They’re where we get to know colleagues, discuss work issues and sport. They give us the opportunity to stand still, to listen to and laugh with friends.

They’re where conversations have a chance to breathe and flourish.

*I phoned Dunco on Christmas Day.
