I think a light bulb actually appeared above my head at the precise moment when I knew that the internet was where my future lay.

I remember when, in 2005, I thought, ‘I like writing, the internet’s full of words, I can write words for the internet’. My new goal was to become a professional writer, leave the TV job I had and retrain. What sort of writer writes for the internet? I looked it up: a copywriter.

And that was it. Let’s go for copywriting, I thought – and immediately made plans to become a driving instructor.

Well, I tried – and failed (twice) – to become a driving instructor. It was a ridiculous idea. Fear-driven dream protection.

So I began proper training, training that might get me somewhere away from roads and without having to direct someone else’s teenager as they attempt a three-point turn with an impatient loon driving a van screaming at them (and me) through two windscreens.
