Websites intended for public consumption are nothing without traffic. You could set up the best site in the world but if no one sees it, you might as well open a branch of Harrods in the middle of the Sahara.

Traffic is good. The right traffic is even better, as that equals attention, which is gold.

Traffic comes in two broad forms: paid for and organic (ie, free).

When a business pays for traffic, it could be via ads on social media or a search engine or sponsored content.

Organic traffic is the kind that a website gets when it’s in one of the top three spots in Google.
